In this post, I will be showing you some of the restaurants and their menus, also I will give you some tips about where to find which restaurant and what type of food to expect in that particular city that I visited. Those cities are Dieppe, Étretat, Deauville, Caen, and Mont-Saint-Michel.

I tried to take a photo of each menu to give you insight about foods and their prices. Also I write my comments about what I ate. I wanted to start with north of France that I visited recently. I and my husband go and visit his family in Rouen couple of times in a year. I strongly suggest you to see this one of the biggest city in Normandy. After our family visit, I had a chance to visit couple of other cities that you can see and read my comments below.

For any further questions, you can always send me an E-mail, I would be very happy to give you more tips within my knowledge.

I hope you enjoy and use my tips to eat delicious local foods!

DIEPPE

Dieppe is one of the coastal town in the north of France, nearby the english channel. As many of coastal towns there, it is famous with its cliffs. Since it is nearby the sea you can expect to find lots of fish restaurants with special menu offers in each restaurant. I find this special menu offers very interesting and really very special to just France.

For French people eating in order is very important: First, they need to start with a nice entry plate, then a main dish, and then dessert is a must! Of course a soft drink is always included in those menus. In house they never skip eating cheese and drink wine before the dessert as well! I travel quite a bit and saw several countries but I believe that this you can only expect to find in France.

Important tip*** in France you can always ask for a tap water for free, they would bring you in a bottle or in a carafe.

Le Sully

Le Sully is one of the many fish restaurants nearby the small port at the city center. The reason that we chose this restaurant, because of its Parisian look and its menus. It was one of the only restaurant that offers menu things without sea products. My husband doesn't prefer sea products. Inside was very cosy as expected and the service was very good, everyone was very friendly.

So, as you can see in the middle photo, they offer several different choices for entry, main dish and dessert. Each menu has different price and all the restaurants around offer their menus more or less at the same price range. You can pick an entry, a main dish and a dessert, all three of them or you can pick like us: I ordered an entry and a main dish, while my husband ordered a main dish and a dessert.

Foie de lotte mariné - Filet de boeuf sauce au poivre/beurre d'ail - île flottante

I started with sea products but there wasn't any bier in their menu for your information and I didn't want to drink white wine. That's why I continue with the beef with black pepper sauce and a salad nearby, while my husband had the beef with garlic butter and french fries. They were cooked as we wanted and they were delicious. You have a good amount of french fries and a big bowl of salad. Also the dessert is in very big portion. He chose to eat île flottante which means floating island with custard sauce. It is definitely worth to try this restaurant and have a nice dinner in a real local french environment.

Étretat

Étretat is like Dieppe but a smaller city with old narrow streets. It has this typical romantic atmosphere which is making me day dream. The most famous cliff is in this small city as you can see on my photos below. You should definitely go up the cliffs and take a look at this amazing view from the up. Also it has a very old bazaar at the center, which you can buy souvenirs like Norman cider to your loved ones.

La Flottille

I definetely suggest you to eat mussels, do not miss that chance. Otherwise like me, you may search to find it in another time, but your options would be most probably less good than in Étretat. We were searching to find another local taste at that time; galette. Galette is a salty crepe basically, you may find it in another country or in another region of France, but they won't be the same with original Norman galette.

I will definitely try to make it at home and share with you.

As usual they have several menus to offer in the restaurants, which are mainly sea fruit menus. My main criteria to select a restaurant is its locality and environment. And then of course, the taste of its dishes are important for me to recommend you on my blog.

In La Flottille, they offer galette and also sea products. Menu prices are around 18€ - 20€ and it includes a main dish, a dessert and a drink. Or you can prefer like me to just eat a main dish, which costs less than 10€. If you compare the food quality with their price range, I have to admit that their offers are amazing.

La Flottille part of their menu - galette jambon & saumon - galette avec pomme et caramel beurre salé

I ate salmon galette which has crème fraîche, chives and leeks inside. Crème fraîche is a typical french taste which is looking like quark but it is some kind of cream. On the other hand, my husband took the crepe menu and his main dish was Fermière galette, which has egg, jambon, grated cheese and marbled cream. Both of them were very delicious and very heavy because of the cream inside. As a dessert he ate a very delicious crepe with salty butter caramel apple and whipped cream.

I thought, it would be very long for an article to talk about 5 cities. That's why I decided to divide this writing into two. I will be preparing the second part while you are very kind to read the first part of my article.

Thank you for your time & I hope you to enjoy while reading!
